END OF LIFE DOULA
What an End of Life Doula?
Let us start by saying what it is not. An End of Life Doula (meaning to serve) is not a Palliative care nurse, it is not a medically trained person, although some may have a medical background or indeed be a nurse, but this is not a requirement.
So, what is it?
An End of Life Doula is a non-medical person who is there help and support you through this last stage of your life, providing emotional support for you and/or your family as needed and on your terms.
HOW CAN A DOULA ASSIST?
Anyone wanting support and guidance in yours or your loved one’s final stages of life. Do you worry about your partner being alone, taking on the task of looking after you? A Doula can be the support your needs on this final journey here on earth and can be there to support your loved ones after.
Maybe you or a loved one is in hospital or have chosen to live at home or even somewhere else. You don’t want to burden the family, or you just need the company of someone outside of that circle of loved ones. Someone to run your errands, do some shopping, cook a meal, just be your support or provide respite for others in your circle.
Maybe you are coping better than your loved ones in this time of transition? This can be emotionally draining, frustrating, hurtful or tiring as it is you that really needs the support.
You may have noticed others can be afraid to ask the questions or have that talk with you, a Doula can talk and listen without judgement.
